How to Start a Summer Camp at Home

It does take a little planning to start your DIY summer camp but that doesn’t mean it has to be hard. If you plan it out before you start the summer will run smoothly and be fun for everyone.

Let’s go over a few steps to get you started on your planning.

Ultimate Summer Camp at Home Planner & Ideas - Printable with everything you need to plan a DIY Summer Camp.

How Long Is Your Camp?

Decide how many weeks you want your summer camp to run. Then figure out how many hours of the day you need to fill. It does not need to be all back-to-back activities each day. You’ll want some downtime too so don’t feel you need to fill an entire day.

Create a Schedule

Once you know how long you want your camp each day you can create a schedule. It can be a detailed hour-by-hour schedule or a general daily schedule.

Here are two different types of schedules you can print out for free. Just click on the schedule below to get the free printable.

Free Printable Daily Schedule for Kids - Keep the kids on schedule over the summer or when schools out. It will help make your day organized and less stress-free.
Free Summer Checklist & Screen Time Rules for Kids. Free printable checklist for kids with chores, personal activities and educational activities. No more arguing with your kids they'll know exactly what they need to get done to have screen time.

Pick a Weekly Camp Theme

Make each week exciting by having a different theme each week. The activities, crafts, field trips, and more can all be centered around this theme.

Plus I find it easier to plan when you’re more focused than just thinking of broad activity ideas each week. You’ll learn more about planning theme weeks out below.

Plan Activities Each Week

To make the week less stressful don’t try to come up with activities in the moment. Plan them out the week before or even the night before so you ready for the day. It will help your day run smoother.

Be Flexible

Even though you planned out the day remember you’re with kids so be flexible. If their having a great time doing an activity keep doing it don’t stop due to your schedule. Find an activity they enjoy more do that activity every day or once a week.

See what’s working and adjust. You want it to be fun and stress-free so go with the flow.

What Can You Do at Summer Camp

I have found that it’s easier for me to plan if I have a camp theme each week. It gives you a focus while figuring out your activities. There are tons of great summer camp theme ideas to choose from to fit all your different age kids’ personalities.

Educational Activities

Visit your local library for a fun Summer Camp at home field trip and educational activity.

I like to add in an educational activity or two each day. This has really helped with the dreaded summer slide when the kids go back to school in the fall.

Library

Head to your local library once a week to pick out books. I find the kids are more willing to read when they pick books out themselves. Plus it’s a free activity out of your house.

Look into joining your libraries summer reading club to give your kids an incentive to read more.

You can get a printable summer reading log in Summer Camp at Home Planner.

Summer Workbooks

I usually buy a workbook for the kids each summer and have them do a few pages each day. We use the Summer Bridges Books that have a 15 minute a day plan for kids. It’s quick and has really helped my kids keep up over the summer.

Educational Websites & Apps

Another option is to take advantage of all the educational apps and websites for kids. You’ll find there are tons of different sites for every subject.

Check out my list of 25 Best School Apps & Educational Websites for Kids to get you started.

Camp Field Trip Ideas

Plan to get out of the house each week on a fun field trip. Your kids will love exploring your local community with you.

I suggest making a field trip bucket list to come up with all the places you want to visit this summer. Ask the kids where they want to go and add it to the bucket list. They’ll love being able to help plan with you.

Find new places to visit by following local mom Facebook groups or kids’ activity groups. You can also Google local museums and find ones to visit in your area you may never have heard of. The fun part is finding new places you all enjoy trying out.

Field Trip Ideas:

  • Visit a New Playground

How Much Does it Cost?

The best thing about a DIY Summer Camp is it’s so much cheaper than sending your kids away to camp. You can adjust the camp you create to the budget that works for you.

To save money I buy tons of my crafts and activity supplies at Dollar Tree. We also eat at the house a lot rather than out at restaurants.

Where you can get into higher costs is the field trips you choose. For instance, some museums, and waterparks can cost a lot to buy tickets. So decided what you want to splurge on when making your field trip bucket list.

I suggest you make a budget of what you want to spend and then keep track as you go so that you don’t go over that amount.

You can find a camp budget tacker in the Summer Camp at Home Planner.

Are you feeling excited about planning a summer camp at home with your kids? I have found that my favorite summers are the ones I don’t send my kids to camp and we get to have fun together all summer. You make great family memories to cherish as your kids grow up.

Now it’s time to put together your plan. To make it easier use my Summer Camp at Home Planner. It has printables for all the planning stages of your camp to make it a stress-free task. You won’t need to search all over the internet to plan your themes or get the checklists you need. Just print it out and your ready!

Balloon Tennis

Playing balloon tennis is the same basic idea as a real tennis game. Make your own rackets by taping a wooden spoon to the back of a paper plate. Then use a couch or chairs to create a net.

Have the kids stand on each side of the net and hit the balloon back and forth like tennis. If the balloon hits the ground the other team gets a point.

Volleyball

Play this game much like you played balloon tennis but don’t use the rackets. Kids will hit a balloon back and forth over a “net” (couch or chairs) and try to keep the balloon from hitting the ground.

Keep It Up

Have each child put a hand behind their back. Then throw a balloon to each child and see who can keep the balloon up in the air the longest without hitting the ground.

If you want it to be more challenging for the next round let them only use one arm and hop on one foot while trying to keep the balloon in the air.

Tip: This game could also work for larger groups at a party.

Free Printable Screen Time Rules Checklist for Kids to use this Summer. Stop arguing with your kids about electronics and use this summer checklist to set expectations.

Balloon HORSE

Play Balloon HORSE just like you’d play the basketball game HORSE. Create a basket by using a bucket or waste paper basket. Have the kids make up different shots to get the balloon into the basket.

If they get a balloon into the basket all the kids after need to try and make the exact same shot. If they miss they get a letter in the word HORSE. Once a kid spells the whole word horse they are out.

Tip: You can use any word so if you want the game to be shorter pick Frog or Cat or something like that.

Frozen Ice Balloons

Create cool frozen ice balloons with your kids. It’s super easy to do and the kids will love peeling off the ballons and trying to melt the ice with warm water. You can even hide a dinosaur or small toy inside for the kids to find.

Bonus it’s a fun STEM project to do with the kids. Learn how to make Dinosaurs Frozen in Ice.

Balloon Hockey

Balloon Hockey is a super fun indoor balloon game for kids.

Play indoor balloon hockey with small hockey sticks or pool noodles cut in half. Use the balloon as your puck and a box or laundry basket on each side of the room as your net. Let the kids hit the balloons back and forth and see who can score the most.

Tip: I would suggest setting a number of goals to make to win. Such as whoever get 5 goals first wins.

Balloon Balance

For this game kids try to see how long they can balance a balloon on their finger tip or foot.

When you’re stuck inside be ready with Boredom Busing Indoor Activities for Kids. Stop hearing your kids say “I’m Bored”. Use these games and balloon games to keep your kids busy all day long.

Fun Balloon Race Party Game for Kids.

For this race create a start and finish line in your yard or large space. Line the kids up on the start line and have them place a balloon between their knees.

When you say go they race to the finish line but if they drop the balloon they need to go back to start and begin again. First kid to cross the finish line with the balloon in-between their knees wins.

Balloon Pop Race

Hilarious Party Game for Kids Balloon Pop Race. Kids love working on teams to pop the balloon quickest to win the game. Super easy game to play at birthday parties and backyard BBQs

Divide the kids up into even groups of 3-4 kids. On one end of the room put a line of chairs to match the number of groups you have. Then on the other end of the room have a start line with the kids lined up with their groups.

When you say GO the first kid races with their balloon to a chair, places it on the chair, and needs to pop the balloon by sitting on it. When they pop it they run back to their group and the next kid goes.

The first group to get all the kids to pop their balloons on the chair and make it back to the start line wins.

Surprise Balloon Pop

Fill several balloons with small lollypops & treats and the rest of the balloons with just air. Blow up enough balloons to cover the floor in your room with balloons. When you say GO let the kids start stomping on the balloons. The goal is to find the balloons with the treats.

Add Competition – If the kids are older add some competition to see who can pop the most balloons. Have each child pick up the balloon once they popped it and at the end add up all the balloons each child has popped.

Whoever popped the most balloons wins. The best part is it gets the kids to help you clean up the floor.

Keep it Up – Pool Noodle

Balloon Keep It Up with Pool Noodles and Balloons. A fun game to play on rainy days at home or as a cool party game. A cheap and entertaining game kids will love with Dollar Tree supplies.

This is a fun outdoor game with a group of kids. Give each child half of a pool noodle and one balloon. I usually buy a bunch of pool noodles at Dollar Tree and cut them in half.

Make sure to space the kids out so they are not all bunched up together and hitting each other with pool noodles.

When you say go they toss their balloon in the air and use the pool noodle to keep the balloon from touching the ground. As soon as their balloon touches the ground they are out.

The one who keeps their balloon up in the air the longest wins.

Keep It Up – Circle

Have a group of kids hold hands in a circle. If you have a bigger party you can make several circles and create a competition. The goal of the game is to keep the balloon up in the air without using their hands. Players can not let go of the people next to them to get the balloon.

Players can use their legs, head, or pull up their arm with the person next to them to try and hit the balloon back in the air. Do this just for fun to see how long they can keep the balloon going or have different groups compete to see who can keep it up the longest.

This is a hilarious game to watch!

Balloon Stomp

To create the balloon stomp game tie a ribbon to the end of a blown-up balloon. Then tie the ribbon & balloon to each child’s leg. When you say go the kids try and stomp on each other’s balloons.

When your balloon is popped your out. The last child without a popped balloon wins.

Water Balloon Games

Water Balloons are a summer favorite for kids. They’re a great way to cool the kids off in the summer heat and they’ll have a blast playing.

The first step is making your water balloons. I would suggest using the rapid-fill water balloons that hook up to your hose. It’s so much faster than individually filling each balloon.

Once filled divide the balloons up evenly for each team and place them in a large bin.

Next, divide the kids up into two teams and give each their own side of the yard. I add a line in the middle of the field to divide the two teams’ areas. You can use cones, chairs, or even a measuring tape to make your line. This lets the kids know they can’t cross that line and don’t hurt anyone by hitting them too close with the balloons.

When you say GO kids can start throwing balloons and having fun.

Find more water balloon game Ideas -with water balloon baseball and water gun battles in Outdoor Games for kids with Dollar Tree Items.

Balloon Spoon Race

Balloon Spoon Race Game for Kids - Great Party Game for Kids at Birthday parties or backyard BBQs

This is just like the Egg Spoon race but you use a balloon instead. It’s a little more challenging because you need to walk slower to keep the balloon from blowing off. The smaller you blow up the balloon the easier it is to play.

To set up have a start line and a chair at the other end for the kids to walk around. Have the distance closer for younger kids. Then break the kids up into teams and line up behind the starting line.

The first team member places a balloon on a spoon and when you say GO walks around the chair and makes it back to their teammates without dropping the balloon.

When they get back the next teammate goes and continues until all team members go. The first team with all their players back wins.

Tip: Use a larger spoon like a serving spoon to help keep the balloon from falling off to often.

I hope you found a few balloon party games that your kids will love. These inexpensive balloon games for kids are a great way to keep them entertained both playing at home and at a party.

Building Blocks

DIY Cardboard Building Blocks for Kids. Make a fun indoor activity for kids by turning all your cardboard boxes into cool building blocks. Perfect for rainy days at home.

Kids love to stack up building blocks so why not make them out of your old cardboard boxes? You can use any small to medium size boxes you have. We have even used old tissue boxes.

To make the boxes seem more special I used colorful tape around the outside of each box. This added some fun and was super easy to do. I picked up several colors of tape at Dollar Tree but you can also find some here.

Then let your kids use their imagination to build a fort, zoo, store, or just see how high they can build the blocks. The great thing about cardboard is it’s lightweight when they fall down so kids won’t get hurt.

Reading Nook

Cardboard Reading Nook or Play house for Kids. A fun indoor playhouse for kids made with cardboard boxes. When your done collapse the box and put it away. Fun on rainy days when your stuck at home.

Create a reading nook out of larger boxes. Again I used different color tapes to decorate our Book Nook. Then we added pillows, blankets and books so the kids could hang out and read.

You can also let your kids get creative with this and use crayons or markers to decorate their own book nook. They’ll love just being able to color this huge box.

Tip – If the box can stay up on its own don’t tape the back wall shut. Then when the kids are done you can fold it down to save space.

Marble Run

First, let the kids experiment to figure out where to put all the pieces in the Marble Run. Your goal is to try and get the marble to land in the toilet paper roll at the bottom.

Once you’ve made it use our free printable observation chart to mark down where the marble lands the most.

When your done turn it into a game giving each area a marble can land a different amount of points. Compete to see who can get the most points while sending the marble down the shoot.

Cardboard Golf

Easy Cardboard golf game for kids. Turn your cardboard boxes into golf tees in your home. A fun indoor activity for kids.

Make your own indoor golf course with cardboard golf holes. Use a box that is the size of a shoe box or large tissue box. Cut one side of box open so you can hit a golf ball into it.

Glue a colored piece of construction paper on top and write the number. I try to have each hole have a different color and then pick the number based on where I place the hole in the room.

Next, get out a kids golf club and foam golf balls and try to hit the golf ball into the holes.

Hockey with Cardboard

Indoor Cardboard Box Hockey for Kids. Play indoor hockey by using a cardboard box and hockey sticks. Keep your kids active when your stuck indoors.

Making a floor hockey game out of cardboard is really just creating a goal for your kids. To do this I used a medium-size box and just folded in the flaps. You could also cut off the flap it keeps the ball from rolling in.

To play indoor floor hockey kids need a small hockey stick and we just used a foam ball. That way nothing gets broken if the ball hits anything in the room.

Tip: If you need to buy a hockey stick you could also use this stick for golf so you don’t need to buy two items. The kids don’t really care if it’s the right stick they just want to play.

Exercise Dice

Use the Cardboard Exercise Dice to get your kids moving when your stuck indoors on rainy days.

Want to get your kids moving? Keep them active with this fun exercise dice. Use a cube-shaped box that can work as a dice. To add color I added different color tape around the edges of the box.

On each side of the dice write a different exercise for the kids to do. Then let them roll the dice and try the exercise. You can all do the exercise together or have just the person who rolls do it.

I use this as a rain day activity and it’s a great way to get some energy out.

Exercise Ideas for the Dice

Slide

Turn a large box into a slide down your stairs. This is super easy to make and tons of fun. Flatten a large box and lay it onto of your stairs. Then place a few pillows at the end to make a soft landing and to keep the box from slipping down.

Next let the kids slide down and have fun. My kids also let their dolls slide down as a race.

Car Ramp & Race

DIY Cardboard Car Ramp for Kids. Recycle Cardboard to make this fun indoor activity for kids. Perfect for kids who love to play with match box cars.

The same way you created a slide you can make a car race or ramp for your kids. To make car lanes we add roadway tape. Add this to the box to create your different lanes down to the bottom of the box.

Have the kids lay on their stomachs at the top of the stairs and race the cars to the end. If you want the ramp to flatten out at the finish line add another flattened box to the end of your stairs. You can add a finish line to that box and see which car makes it over the line first.

Cool DIY Cardboard Marble Run Ideas Kids Love

Spread the love

Did you know you can recycle cardboard boxes into cool cardboard toys? Our latest creation is a fun DIY Cardboard Marble Run. It turned out really cool and the kids loved creating this marble run project.

Wondering how do you make a cardboard Marble run? It’s actually pretty easy to do. All you need is a large box, toilet and paper towel rolls, glue, and marbles.

Kids can use STEM strategies to figure out how to design the run so the marble ends up in the rolls at the end. That’s the challenging part they’ll really enjoy. Once it’s completed kids can guess where the marble will end up and try different size marbles to see if it makes a difference.

Use our simple marble run instructions to make your own cardboard marble run with your kids. It’s a fun and cheap kids activity to do together with items you would have just throw away.

Fun DIY Cardboard Marble Run Ideas for Kids

How to Make a DIY Cardboard Marble Run a cool STEM experiment. Turn your cardboard box, toilet paper rolls & paper towel rolls into a fun cardboard toy for kids.

Creating your own DIY cardboard marble runs is a fun way to teach your kids to recycled cardboard and other items at home. In making a cardboard STEM challenge kids will learn to look differently at the items you throw away and think about how to reuse them.

Plus they’ll have a great time playing with this fun recycled cardboard toy.

What You Need

Here is what you need to make your cardboard marble run.

DIY Cardboard Marble Run Supplies to create your own run out of paper towels & toilet paper rolls. A fun STEM project for kids at home or school.
  • Large Cardboard Box
  • Several Paper Towel Rolls or Wrapping Paper Rolls
  • Several Toilet Paper Rolls
  • Hot Glue Gun (can use tape or Elmer’s glue too)

How to Make a DIY Cardboard Marble Run

Step 1

The first step is finding a box that will work for your marble run. We used a box we picked up at Costco with our order but you can use any long cardboard box you have.

If your box doesn’t have sides you will need to add sides to keep the marbles from falling out.

Step 2

Now layout your paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls and decide where they should be glued down. This is the STEM part of the challenge deciding how to line up your rolls so that the marble will roll down into your hole at the bottom.

We added toilet paper rolls at the bottom to catch the marbles and used the paper towel rolls to guide the marbles down the run.

The fun part will be playing with this to see which works best for your marble run.

Step 3

To add more spaces for the marble to land beside the toilet paper rolls we added color tape between the toilet paper rolls. This will help with a game later to give different level of points for landing on different colors or into the toilet paper rolls.

Step 4

Cut a hole in your Marble Run Board to drop your marble for this fun STEM experiment at home.

Cut out a hole at the tops where you can drop your marble. You may also want to experiment with larger marbles or bouncy balls later so make the hole large enough for different sizes.

You’ll want the hole to line up with your top paper towel rolls so that when you drop it the marble will hit the marble run.

Step 5

Now that you have your layout of where you want all your rolls it’s time to glue.

Use hot glue to make a Cardboard Marble Run. A fun cardboard challenge at home.

We started at the bottom so that we made sure the rolls all lead to rolling the marble into the toilet paper rolls at the end. You could mark the box with a pencil where you pick up the rolls so you know where you laid it out before gluing.

We used a hot glue gun because the roll seemed to stay better. However, if you don’t have a hot glue gun you could tape the rolls by running a heavy tape through the whole roll.

Or you could try Elmer’s Glue. It won’t last as long but if it falls down you can just retry making your maze with a different pattern. Which might also be fun for the kids.

Step 6

DIY Marble Run Ideas with Cardboard. Create this cool STEM experiment at home using cardboard tubes, boxes and glue. Then recorded your observations on a free printable chart. A fun cardboard challenge at home.

Once the glue dries you are done and your cardboard marble run is ready to play!

STEM Activity for Kids Cardboard Marble Run Ideas. Recycle your cardboard and make this fun cardboard toy with boxes, paper towels, toilet paper rolls and glue. A fun science experiment at home.

Cardboard Marble Run Challenge

Now create a fun STEM challenge out of your marble run. Kids will observe which roll or color space the marble ends up in the most.

Let the kids guess what they think will happen and record their observations in our free printable STEM Observation Chart.

Free printable Observation Chart for your Marble Run Cardboard Experiment.

On the chart, kids can record which size marble they used and where it landed. To do this add numbers on your marble run for each roll on the bottom. Kids can write down it landed on the #1 roll or landed on a color space in between.

At the end have the kids look over their observations and tell you what they discovered. Was one size marble better at landing in the rolls? Which spot did marbles land in the most? Why do you think the marble landed in that spot more often than other spots?

Marble Run Game

Once you’re done with your STEM experiment let the kids play a game. Use the numbers you added to the rolls for the STEM challenge as points. If the marble lands in roll #1 you get 2 points, #2 you get 3 points, #3 you get 4 points and so one. Also, assign each color a certain point.

After your observations you’ll have a better idea of which spots are harder and easier to land to help you assign the points.

Have the kids record their points and after 5 runs see which marble got the most points.

I hope your kids will enjoy these DIY Cardboard Marble run ideas as much as my kids have. It’s a creative way to recycle cardboard and make it into a fun STEM activity.

DIY Spinning Nerf Targets with Cardboard

Easy to Make Spinning Nerf Targets for Kids. These DIY Nerf Targets are made with Cardboard, a straw and a penny. It's super cheap to make using items you probably have at home. The targets will keep your Nerf loving kids busy all day.

For our spinning Nerf targets we added even more fun with cardboard targets on top of the box too. This gives each child several places to shot on each turn.

What You Need to Make a Nerf Target

You only need a few items to make this cool target.

  • Cardboard Box
  • Straw
  • Long stick (chopstick, wooden skewer)
  • Masking tape
  • Exacto Knife

Tip: I like using a box instead of an open board because it collects all the nerf bullets for you. But you could easily use a fold-out cardboard box too and just lean it against a wall.

How to Make a Spinning Nerf Target

There are only a few steps to follow to make your spinning Nerf Target.

Step 1

Cardboard box for Targets

Get your box ready. We like to spray paint our box with camouflage paint to add to the Nerf feel. Check out our spray paint method in our Nerf Party Guide.

Step 2

Depending on the size of the box decided how many spinning targets you can fit on your box. Use your wooden skewer to help decide your spacing. Then use an Exacto knife to cut out circles.

Step 3

Take the new cut-out circles and use scissors to cut them a little smaller. They need to be small enough to spin around in the hole you made in the box.

Step 4

Cut a piece of a straw and attach it on the back of the cut out circle. It should not go across the whole circle. Tape the straw near the top of the cut out circle like shown above.

Then make sure your stick (wooden skewer) goes through the straw.

Step 5

Cardboard Spinner to make your Nerf Targets using a penny as a weight and straw to help the target spin.

At the bottom of your circle tape a penny to the back. This will act as a weight for your target.

Step 6

Make your spinning Target by taping down your cardboard spinner.

The wooden skewer should now be in the staw on the cardboard circle with the penny tapped on the bottom. Now tape each side of the wooden skewer to the hole in your box.

Make sure to position your target so it can spin in the opening before you tape it down.

Step 7

Ice Balloons Science Experiments for Kids At Home

Ice & Salt Science Experiment with Ice Balloons for Kids. Show kids what happens when water freezes. Then do a salt and ice melting experiment together. Try these two cool ice experiments for the kids at home or school. They're also are a fun way to decorated kids' snow castles too!

Are you ready to create these super cool Ice Balloons? They’re so much fun the kids won’t even realize they’re learning science while playing.

What You Need

  • Balloons
  • Water
  • Food Dye
  • Salt
  • Bin to Hold the Balloons (or melt ice in)

How to Make Ice Balloons

How make Ice balloons at home a fun science experiments for kids.

There are only a couple of steps to make an ice balloon. Here is what you need to do.

Step 1

Add Food Dye to Your balloon – I do this first before I add water because after the balloon is full of water it tends to spray if you don’t tie it right away. I would suggest 5 drops of food dye.

Add color to your Ice Balloons with food dye.

Also, consider leaving one or two Ice balloons without color so you can add it later for another experiment I’ll show you below.

Step 2

Add water to your balloons to create your Ice Balloons science experiment.

Add Water to the balloon – I have found it easiest if I attach the balloon to the faucet or a hose as shown above. Make sure not to add too much water that the balloon pops.

Step 3

Tie the balloon – Once the balloon is full pinch the top and gently pull it off the faucet. Then quickly tie a knot to the top of the balloon.

Step 4

Freeze the balloon – If you’re trying this in the winter and it’s below freezing place the balloons outside overnight to freeze. You could try placing the balloons in different spots to see if they will freeze differently.

Place balloons filled with water in the snow to make ice balloons.

For example, put some in the snow, some on a cleared driveway, and some close to the warmth of the house. The kids can see if they freeze differently due to the placement of the balloons.

If it’s warm outside place the balloons in your freezer overnight.

Step 5

Peel off the balloon to discover your Ice ball frozen inside. A fun science experiment at home.

Peel Off the Balloon – The last step is removing the balloon from the ice ball. The balloon will easily peel away from the balloon. Often the ice has popped open the balloon a little so you have a place to start peeling.

If there is no break in the balloon use scissors to cut the top off and then peel the balloon back.

Ice Balloon Tip

Your fingers might turn colors with the food dye either when adding it or removing the balloons from the ice.

You can either wear gloves for these parts or just go with it. The kids will love seeing a rainbow of colors on their hands & it will wash off within a day.

You could also rinse the ice ball with water or roll it through the snow and the excess dye will come off. The dye only stays on as you initially remove the balloon from the ice.

Science Experiment with Your Ice Balloons

Now that you have your Ice Balloons let the kids explore the ice. Talk about the different shapes the ice created. Is there a flat spot where it laid on the ground? Is it heavy or light? Drop it in a bowl of water and see if it floats.

Then pull out a magnifying glass and take a closer look at the cracks and crevices in the ice balloons. Can you see the cracks better with the ice that is dyed or clear?

Lastly, with the extra clear balloons, you made add a few drops of food dye to the top. This will help highlight the crevices in the ice so you can see it better.

Salt & Ice Experiment

Now have the kids try and melt their ice balloons. You’ll need two different bowls or bins that will fit an Ice Balloon.

In one bin add salt to the top of your Ice balloon. In the other bin use a dropper to add warm water to the balloon. Have the kids watch and see which helps the ice melt faster salt or warm water.

Tip: Add small figures to your balloons so the kids have something to discover when they melt. We like to make Dinosaurs Frozen in Ice.

Winter Play with Frozen Balloons

Once you’re done with your experiments let the kids play with the Ice Balloons you didn’t melt. If you’ve built a snow fort have the kids add them as decorations or pretend their jewels in the castle they need to protect.

My kids had a blast with their creative play and their new ice jewels in the snow.

The second is a hula hoop toss. Pair the kids up and line them across from each other. The kids will toss the hula hoop to their partner and see if they can catch it. Each time they catch it have the kids take a big step back and try again.

Musical Chairs is a fun birthday party game for kids both indoors & outdoors.

Play musical chairs outdoors with the kids. Place a line of chairs in your yard with one chair less than the number of kids playing. The chairs will be back to back so the kids can walk in a circle.
