How to Play Minute to Win It Games

To play the 60-second game, players are given a series of challenges that they need to complete in 1 minute. You can play these games in large groups or small groups as school games.

Decide on Teams or Individuals

First, decide if players will compete as a group or individually. This really depends on how many people you have playing the game.

If you decide to have groups, you will now pick who is on each team. Sometimes it’s easier to assign the groups ahead of time so there is no fighting, and teachers can make the teams even.

How to Win

The team member who completes the Minute to Win It challenges in 1 minute wins the game. If you are playing on teams or competitively, and two or more players complete the challenge, then the fastest player wins.

1. Cake Stack Attack

Supplies Needed - 42 Solo Plastic Cups

How to Play - First, split cups into two groups (21 each) and have two players compete against each other. Players have one minute to unstack the cups and create a pyramid, then restack the cups back into each other.

Use the timer on your phone for this and write down the time as they finish. When all the players are done, look at the times to find a winner. Just add more cups if you want to have more than two kids compete. 

Tip: When stacking cups up, don’t press them tightly together, or they can be hard to get apart.

2. Birthday Junk in the Trunk

Supplies Needed – Empty tissue boxes, Belt, 10 white ping pong balls, Birthday Wrapping Paper

How to Play – This game is Junk in the Trunk Birthday edition. The first thing to do is make your birthday box. I wrapped my tissue box in birthday wrapping paper to make it a birthday game.

To make your box, first wrap a Kleenex box in wrapping paper, making sure to leave the area where you pull Kleenex tissues out unwrapped.

Next, cut two slits on the opposite side of the box opening. Then have the belt go through the slits.

Lastly, add to the box 10 ping pong balls (Candles) and place the box around a player’s waist with the belt.

Players then have 1 minute to shake out all their ping-pong balls. This is hilarious to watch!

3. Birthday Balloon Pop

Supplies You’ll Need – Balloons 

How to Play – In the middle of the room, place balloons that you have blown up. When the timer starts, the player will race to the balloons and try to sit on or stomp on the balloons to pop as many as possible. The winner pops the most balloons.

4. Party Hat Ring Toss

Supplies You’ll Need – Party Hats, Rings

How to Play - Line up party hats on the table. Have the player stand across the table and try to toss rings onto the hats. The player with the most rings on hats wins. 

5. Birthday Wrap Race

Supplies You’ll Need – Gift Boxes, Birthday Wrapping Paper, Tape, Scissors

How to Play - Give each player a stack of gift boxes and wrapping paper. See how many boxes they can wrap in 1 minute.

6. Cupcake Liner Race

Supplies You'll Need - Cupcake Liner (paper cups)

How to Play - Give each player a stack of cupcake liners. Then race to see who can be the first to unstack all the liners. 

7. Birthday Card Shuffle

Supplies You'll Need - Birthday Cards

How to Play - Give players a stack of 15-20 birthday cards to stack neatly using only one hand. First to finish wins. 

8. Candle Shuffle

Supplies You'll Need - Candles, Bowls, spoons

How to Play - Give each player a bowl filled with candles, an empty bowl, and a plastic spoon. They will place one hand behind their back and have 1 minute to use the spoon to move the candles to the empty bowl. The player who moves the most candles wins. 

9. Hidden Candle

Supplies You'll Need - Candle, Solo Cups

How to Play - Place 20 solo cups on a table and hide a candle under one cup. Players have 1 minute to try and find the candle. Write down the time each player finds the candle, and the player with the quickest time wins.

10. Birthday Cup and Roll

Supplies Needed – Birthday Cups, Painter’s Tape or Masking Tape, ping pong balls

How to Play – Set up by taping 5 birthday cups to the edge of the table for each player. Have players stand at the other end of the table, across from their set of solo cups.

Each team can have two players working together or choose one individual to compete for each team.

Players or Team members are given 10 ping pong balls. 

When the timers start, players have 1 minute to roll as many ping pong balls into the cups as they can. 

If they drop balls on the ground and there is still time, they can pick up the balls and keep going.

The winner has the most ping pong balls in their cups after 60 seconds.

11. Build a Birthday Cake

Supplies Needed – Bags of cotton balls, paper plates

How to Play – Each player is given a paper plate and a bunch of cotton balls. They have 1 minute to try and stack up the cotton balls as high as they can on their plate to create a tall birthday cake. The player with the tallest cake that doesn’t fall when the timer goes off wins. 

12. Birthday Cookie Face

Supplies Needed – Oreo cookies or flat and small birthday cookies

How to Play – Have the team member playing sit in a chair with their head facing up on the back of the chair. Then place a birthday cookie on a player’s forehead in the center, but not touching their eyebrows. When the timer starts, players try to get the cookie into their mouths by using their facial muscles. 

13. Coin Cake Walk

Supplies Needed - Coins, Strong Paper Plate

How to Play - Give each player coins to make into a single stack on their paper plate when the timer starts. Then they have to race to a finish line while walking with the coin stack. Don't let them fall, or you start over. The first player to reach the finish line with the stacked coins wins. 

14. Birthday Breath

Supplies Needed - Balloons, Painter's Tape

How to Play - Create a finish and start line with painter's tape on the floor or table. Players have one minute to be the first to blow an air-filled balloon across the finish line.

15. Pass the Present

Supplies Needed - Small Wrapped Gift

How to Play - This is a team event. Have a team of 4 - 5 players who stand in a row. Players have to pass the present down the line without using their hands. The first team to get to the end of the line is the winning team.

​16. Birthday Pong

Supplies You’ll Need – Ping Pong Balls, Solo Cups

How to Play – Line up cups on one side of a table like a pyramid. Give each player ping pong balls that they will try to bounce into the cups.

17. Birthday Candle Relay Race

Supplies You'll Need - Candles, Large Wooden Spoon

How to Play – This is a team game with 2 players competing against other relay teams.

First, set up the game by giving each team a wooden spoon and a candle. Set up a starting line with painter’s tape on the floor and set a chair across the way from each team.

When the timer starts, the first player will race around the chair while balancing the candle on the spoon. Then they pass the candle onto their teammates’ wooden spoon.

The second player then races around the chair and back to the starting line. The first team back wins.

18. Confetti Cleanup

Supplies You'll Need - Confetti, Plastic Spoons, Clear glass or Spoon.

How to Play - In the middle of the table, place a huge pile of confetti. Each player sits across from the pile with a clear glass and a spoon. When the timer starts, players need to use the spoon to scoop as much confetti as they can into their glass. When the one minute is up, set the glasses next to each other and measure who was able to scoop the most confetti. 

Tip: Make sure all the glasses are the same size so you can compare the levels of confetti. You can also put the confetti on a plate rather than the table for easier cleanup.

19. Candle Stand

​Supplies You'll Need - Candles with a flat bottom

How to Play - Place a pile of candles in front of each player. See how many candles they can stand upright in 60 seconds. 

​20. Birthday Bow Balance

Supplies You'll Need - Large Birthday Bows

How to Play - Create a finish line and a starting line in the room. Players line up at the starting line and place a bow on top of their heads. They then race to the finish line without dropping the bow. 

21. Gift Tag Match

Supplies You'll Need - Tons of Gift tags that have at least one match

How to Play - Create a big pile of gift tags in the middle of the table. Players have one minute to pull gift tags from the pile and try to find as many matches as they can. 

22. Birthday Bow Toss

Supplies You'll Need - Baskets, Gift Bows

How to Play - Set out a basket and see how many bows each player can toss into their basket in 60 seconds. 

23. Cake Plate Slide

Supplies You'll Need - Birthday Paper Plates, Painter's Tape

How to Play - On one side of a table, create a line with painter's tape. See how many paper plates you can slide across the table into the target area before the timer is up.

24. Birthday Balloon Keep It Up

Supplies You’ll Need – Balloons

How to Play – A fun Balloon Keep it up game. Give each player 3 balloons that they need to keep up in the air for 60 seconds. If a balloon falls there. The player who is still juggling the balloons after 1 minute, or whoever lasts the longest, wins.

Tip: Make the game easier for younger kids by using only 2 balloons and harder for older kids, teens, and adults by adding a 4th balloon.

25. Hershey Sticker Match

Supplies You’ll Need – Hershey Kisses, Small Round Birthday Stickers

How to Play – Start by placing birthday stickers on the bottom of 20 Hershey Kisses. In the middle of a table, place 20 Hershey Kisses with stickers and 20 without stickers.

Players will face off across from each other with kisses in between. When the timer starts, players have 60 seconds to find as many matching Hershey Kisses stickers as they can.

If they pick a kiss without stickers, they put it back in the middle. Only taking out the kisses with stickers and placing them on their side.

The winner is the player with the most Hershey kisses with matching stickers on them after the one-minute timer is up.

26. Cake Catapult

Supplies You’ll Need – Plastic Spoons, Bite-Size Pieces of Cake

How to Play – Players will pull back on their plastic spoon with the cake on it and try to shoot it across the room. Players who fling the cake the furthest win.

Tip: This is a great outdoor birthday game. If you're doing it indoors, switch the cake to a ping pong ball so it's not so messy

27. Birthday Card Drop

Supplies Needed – 8 Birthday Cards

How to Play – Line up 8 birthday cards on the edge of a table. Have the player stand on the opposite side of the table and give them 1 minute to blow the 8 cards over the edge of the table. The player who blew over the most cards in under 60 seconds wins. 

Tip: If the table is rectangular, use the shorter sides for this game. 

28. Birthday Laser Maze Race

Supplies You’ll Need – Painter’s Tape, Colorful Streamers

How to Play – In a hallway, tape white streamers (laser maze) across the walls at different angles like a laser maze. Players have one minute to race through the laser maze without pulling any streamers off the walls.

Time the players as they race through the obstacle course, the player with the best time wins.

29. Birthday Puff Tweezer Pick Up

Supplies You’ll Need– Colorful Pom-Poms, Tweezers, Two Bowls or Plates per player

How to Play – Each player is given a bowl/plate full of Pom Poms, tweezers, and an empty bowl. They then have 1 minute to move as many Pom Poms with the tweezers over to the empty bowl as they can before the timer goes off.

30. Birthday Present Shake

Supplies Needed – 6 Gift Boxes, Birthday Wrapping Paper, and Jingle Bells.

How to Play – Fill 6 boxes with different quantities of jingle bells. Wrap the boxes and add a letter to each box. On a piece of paper, write down the letter and number of bells in each box.

When the timer starts have players shake the boxes and listen to the bells. Then put the boxes in order from the least number of bells to the box with the greatest number of bells. 

31. Birthday Puzzle Race

Supplies You’ll Need – Small Puzzle For Each Player (birthday theme)

How to Play – When the timer starts, players need to put together their birthday puzzle. The first to finish wins.

32. Sweet Stack

Supplies You’ll Need – Bag of Peppermint Candies

How to Play – Each player is given a bunch of peppermint candies and has 60 seconds to try to stack as many peppermint candies as they can without the stack falling over. After the one-minute timer is up, the player with the highest stack wins. 

33. Birthday Push

Supplies Needed – Birthday Gift Box Folded Down, Ping Pong Balls, Painter’s Tape

How to Play – Create a start and finish line with painter’s tape on the floor. Make the lines 6 -12 ft. apart. I like to use painter’s tape so it won’t leave a mark on your floor.

Give each player a folded-down gift box and a ping pong ball. When the timer starts, players use the box as a fan to roll the ball across the floor to the finish line.

Players can not touch the ping pong ball with the box. They can only use the wind to push it across the floor. The first player to cross the finish line in 1 minute wins.

34. Birthday Squish Toss

Supplies Needed – Bag of Large Marshmallows & Solo Cups

How to Play – Have each player pick a partner on their team. Have the partners stand 2-4 ft across from each other, each holding a solo cup. Give one of the partners a marshmallow to hold.

When the timer starts, the players need to toss the marshmallow into their partner’s solo cup. The winning team has the highest number of throws that make it into the cup in 1 minute.

Tip: If you want the game to be harder, get the miniature marshmallows to throw.

35. Candy Suck It Up

Supplies You’ll Need: Straws, paper plates, and a type of these – Jelly Beans, M&Ms, Skittles, Pom Poms (if you don’t want food due to allergies)

How to Play: Give each player a plate filled with Skittles, an empty plate, and a straw. 

Players have 1 minute to use the straw to suck up the candy and drop it onto the empty plate. The player with the most Skittles moved to the empty plate wins.

36. Birthday Float

​Supplies You’ll Need – Feathers

How to Play: Players are each given a feather and have to keep it up in the air for 1 minute without using their hands.

37. Birthday Wrap

Supplies You’ll Need –  Rolls of Streamers or toilet paper

How to Play – This version of Mummy Wrap is a team game. Each team picks one teammate who will be wrapped with streamers. The team then has 1 minute to wrap their teammate in a roll of streamers/toilet paper. The first team to fully wrap their teammate is the winning team.

38. Chopstick Pick Up

Supplies You’ll Need – A pair of chopsticks for each player, two paper plates for each team, and a bag of candy, mini marshmallows, or pom poms. 

How to Play – Give each team two plates with 20 pieces of candy or pom poms on one plate. Have the players move each piece of candy to the other plate using chopsticks in under a minute.

Tip: It is easier for younger kids to pick up squishy marshmallows than hard M&Ms with chopsticks. Create cheater chopsticks for younger kids by rolling the wrapper between two sticks and wrapping it with rubber bands. 

39. Marble Roll

Supplies You’ll Need: Marbles, straws, & painters’ tape

How to Play: On a table, create a finish line with the painter’s tape. Spread marbles on each side of the table so two players can compete at the same time.  

Players have 1 minute to use their straw to blow as many marbles over the tape line as they can before time is up. The player with the most marbles over the line wins.

40. Birthday Dice Stack

Supplies You’ll Need – Dice and chopsticks

How to Play: Each player will be given 6-8 Dice and chopsticks. Players will stack as many dice as they can using the chopsticks without them falling. The player with the highest stack of dice wins.

Tip: Lower the amount of dice needed to stack for younger kids to 3 & use cheater chopsticks.

41. Birthday Bounce

Supplies You’ll Need: Egg Cartons, Ping Pong Balls

How to Play: Across from each player on a table, set out an open egg carton. Players have 1 minute to try and bounce a ping-pong ball into the egg carton. The player with the most ping pong balls in the egg carton wins.

42. Confetti Shake

Supplies You’ll Need: Empty water bottles, confetti & strong tape

How to Play: Players are each given 2 empty water bottles and confetti. Players need to fill 1 water bottle with confetti & then tape the empty water bottle to the top of the filled water bottle. Lastly, they need to shake all the confetti into the empty water bottle. The player who finishes first wins.

43. Cake Slice Puzzle

Supplies You'll Need - Construction Paper and Scissors

How to Play - Cut out a large circle from construction paper and then cut that into cake slices. Mix up the cake slices on the table. Players have one minute to put all the slices of the cake back together.

44. Ribbon Roll

Supplies You'll Need - Ribbon Rolls

How to Play - Have players unroll a ribbon and then re-roll it in 60 seconds. First to finish is the winner.

45. Separate the Rainbow

Supplies You’ll Need – Skittles or Pom Poms, Bowl or Plate for Each Color

How to Play – Give each player a bowl for each of the color options and a pile of Skittles. The players have one minute to separate the Skittles by color into each bowl. The first player to separate all the colors in under 1 minute wins, or the player who separates the most skittles. 

46. Birthday Speed Sort

Supplies You'll Need - Mixture of Birthday Items - (bows, candles, birthday cards, balloons, etc.)

How to Play - Give the player a mixture of birthday items to put in size order.

47. Birthday Emoji Match

Supplies You'll Need - Print Out Pictures of Emojis

How to Play - Place emoji pictures upside down on a table. Players then try to find the matching emoji pictures just like the game of Memory. The player with the most matches wins.

48. Birthday Dribble

Supplies You'll Need - Helium Birthday Balloons

How to Play - Each player is given 2 helium balloons and will walk to the other side of the room while dribbling their two balloons. First to make it to the other side without losing their balloons wins.

49. Birthday Cookies

How to Play -  Give each player three cookies, frosting, and sprinkles. Players race to be the first one to decorate all three cookies.
