How to Design a Laser Maze

Creating a laser maze at home is pretty easy. All you need to do is create a zig-zag pattern with your streamers. Start at the furthest end of your hallway and work your way out so you don’t get stuck.

Secure the start of your maze with tape and then each time a streamer touches the wall tape it.

Tip: I found it was better to rip individual pieces of streamers across your hallway rather than keeping the roll in tack across the whole maze. This way if your kids break part of the obstacle course it won’t take the whole course down just the part their foot hit.

Obstacle Course Game

Indoor Hallway Lazer Maze game for kids when your stuck at home.

To go through the maze encourage your kids to climb through without touching the streamers. They may need to duck, step or slide on their tummy to get through the obstacle course.

Make it into a laser maze game by having the kids race through the course. Time the kids and see who can make it through the obstacle course the fastest.

The challenge is they can’t break the streams or they’re out.

Create a cool Hallway Laser Maze as a fun kids activity when your stuck at home. An energy burning indoor activity for kids they'll love.

Let them use their imagination and pretend to be a spy or an explorer discovering how to make it through the maze to find the treasure at the end of the hallway. You could even hide something at the end for the kids to find.

When they get bored with the laser maze change it up. With individual pieces of streamers it’s easy for kids to change the course themselves.

Tip: This game would be great for indoor birthday parties or holiday parties too!

Laser Maze at Home

Create a fun laser maze for your kids to climb through. It’s super easy to do with streamers taped across your hallway. I suggest using painters tape so that you don’t ruin the paint on your walls.

When it’s all set up let your kids try to get through the maze without touching the lasers (streamers).

You can keep changing the course to make it easier or harder for your kids. Learn more about making your own DIY Hallway Laser Maze.

Tape Games

Tape Games are a great way to turn the indoors into an active play area or a rainy day game. Plus they’ll help your kids get out all their energy.

For all of these activities, I suggest you use painters tape which will easily come off your floors and walls.

Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a fun Indoor activity & game for kids.

Use your painter’s tape to create hopscotch on your floor. To make the hopscotch game create 10 squares alternating between 1 and two squares next to each other. Make sure the squares are large enough for a foot.

To play have the kids throw a bean bag, button, or any small toy that won’t roll away into the first square to the first square. Each time it’s your turn you’ll hop to the next furthest square. The piece must land inside of a square if it doesn’t you give up your turn.

If your piece lands in a square kids then need to hop to that square and pick up the piece without falling over. When they are hopping over one square they can only have one foot on the floor if they are over two square then each foot can be in a square.

After you pick up your piece turn around and hop back to the end. Make sure not to hop on a line or your out.

When I create the long jump I make one really long line with the tape. This then becomes a balance beam. Have the kids see if they can walk across the balance beam with one foot in front of the other without falling over.

Tip: Make it harder for older kids by having them balance something on top of their head like a pillow or a book.

Car Race

Pick up at the hardware store some paint sheet samples. Give each child a color and have them go around the house finding as many items as possible that match the colors on the paint chip.

Hide and Find

Ping Pong Ball Toss

For the Ping Pong ball game have the kids try and toss a ping pong into a bucket or solo cups. You can play this two different ways.

To play with another child have kids each hold a solo cup and have the other kid toss them the ping pong ball. Kids will try and catch the ball in their cup.

To play solo set out several solo cups or buckets and have the kids toss the ball and try and make it into the cups.

Sidewalk Chalk Drawing Ideas

Kids can use anything you have at home to make sidewalk chalk drawings. All you need is a box of chalk and a little creativity.

My kids like to trace their shadows doing activities they enjoy such as playing hockey or riding a bike.

Next, bring out some toys and have the kids trace them and color the shadows in. We made dinosaurs on our driveway.

You can also make it a game. Give them a category and ask them to draw something like a rainbow, a forest, bugs, flowers, or even a picture of themselves.

Shadow Art

Shadow Art can be done on a picnic table or driveway. For the art project, place a piece of paper down so the shadow will cast across the paper. Then let the kids trace the toy they want to draw. After they are done tracing, they can color in the picture.

This works best earlier in the day and later in the day when the sun is in a good position to make shadows.

Tip: If it’s breezy, tape down the paper so it won’t move with masking tape.

Let kids find their favorite toy and trace it. Here are a dinosaur and stormtrooper we drew.

Another fun thing to do is to make a scene with a group of toys that are similar. We did a dinosaur scene, Disney characters, and figures from the movie Sing.

Visit the Library for a fun free thing to do with kids.

We love going to the library to find new and exciting books to read. It’s also a great place to rent free movies and video games.

Before you go check out their website to see when they are hosting free events for kids. Often there are storytimes and group activities they sponsor with no charge. You’ll find they have events for all ages from babies to teenagers so you can keep all your kids entertained.

Most libraries also have reading programs the kids can join and get prizes for reading books.

Park District

Look at the websites of the park districts in your area and see when they offer free events. You don’t usually have to live in the town to participate in events open to the public. Most have holiday events and summer events kids will enjoy.
